FAQs

What days are you closed?

We are closed on weekends and on the following holidays:

New Year’s Day
Family Day
Good Friday
Easter Monday
Victoria Day
Canada Day
Civic Holiday
Labour Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas Day
Boxing Day

What training do staff have?

All of our staff have completed the same rigorous interview process, hold up-to-date CPR and First Aid certifications, and have completed Police Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks with the North Bay Police Service. As well, all Early Childhood Educator (ECE) teachers on staff are required to be members of the College of Early Childhood Educators.

Beyond these qualifications, we are committed to on-going training and development to ensure our staff stay up to date with developments in the childcare field.

What are your ratios?

We are required to follow the ratios set out in Ontario’s Day Nursery Act.

During our regular hours required ratios are:

Infants (0 to 18 months): 1 teacher to 3 children
Toddlers (18 to 30 months): 1 teacher to 5 children
Pre-school (2 ½ to 5 years): 1 teacher to 8 children

During sleep/rest time and the first and last 2 hours of the day required ratios are:

Infants (0 to 18 months): 1 teacher to 3 children
Toddlers (18 to 30 months): 1 teacher to 7 children
Pre-school (2 ½ to 5 years): 1 teacher to 11 children

What will my child do all day?

Children will be engaged in activity and play at all times of the day. Each classroom is equipped with a dramatic play centre, arts and crafts, gross and fine motor activities, a library area and much more. They are given a nutritious lunch and two healthy snacks throughout the day and, in the afternoon, will have rest time to allow them to regain some energy for the rest of their day.

For more information, check out our How Learning Happens guidelines.

Will my child be outside?

Absolutely! We believe that a key part of a child’s day is getting to play outside. Weather permitting, we spend an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon outside enjoying the fresh air.

Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing to wear based on the day’s forecast.

What will my child be eating?

We accommodate all food restrictions and allergies by providing alternative meals for those who can’t eat what is scheduled to be served on the menu. The menu is looked over and approved by our Health Unit.
