Phelps School Age Program
New to the community, Friends Forever is honored to introduce a before and after school program within Phelps Public school for families with children aged 4-12 years. At Friends Forever we thrive to ensure all children are seen as individuals, with a rich and nurturing inclusive environment that captivates the unique potential of all the children. Will also offer PD day and school breaks with full day programs.
This program runs from 7-9 am and 2:50-6 pm Monday to Friday.,
Meet our Supervisor!
My name is Kara Petrant. I have been employed with Friends Forever since 2022, and have been a Registered Early Childhood Educator since 2019. I have worked in the field of education since 2017. I worked in the Senior Preschool program for only a short time, and am more familiar with working in toddler programs. I am bilingual and love to practice my French with the French speaking children in my care. What makes me most passionate about the field of Early Childhood Education is that I am a part of a child’s growth and I get to see them achieve their goals. “The future of the world is in my classroom today”.
Meet our Administrator!
Maxine is our Administrator here for both Friends Forever Childcare in North Bay and our Centre in Timmins. She started working in the childcare field in 2005 and has proudly been an educator throughout her schooling years and has been an asset to Friends Forever Childcare, since 2017. Over the years, she has worked within the Centre as an educator and our Home Agency, and with all that work experience, she has flourished to be the Administrator who is willing to help out with anything she can. Ever since her first day here at Friends Forever, Maxine’s kindness and energy are two of many great traits that add to our whole team!
Our Philosophy
Our school age program offers a structured, child led environment that works within the pedagogy that friends forever follows of How Does Learning Happen. This Pedagogy looks at all children as competent, capable and rich in potential. We feel this allows for the children to become an active member of the classroom community ensuring they feel a sense of well-being and engagement in a positive and knowledge-fueled environment.
The children will be dropped off to the school before school and will enjoy participating in engaging and thought invoking activities before going to attend class within the school. After school the children will be picked up from the designated pick-up area and again get to enjoy an afternoon with their peers enjoying a snack and participating in fun activities. School-age children are encouraged to self-serve food with the support of educators and, weather permitting, they are taken outside twice a day

Our School-Age Program follows a similar structure to our Preschool Program – continuing to maintain its flexibility to ensure it is child-lead. During the school year, school-age children are dropped off at our centre, bussed to school, bussed back to the centre after school, and stay at the centre until they are picked up. School-age children are encouraged to self-serve food with the support of educators and, weather permitting, they are taken outside twice a day. Field trips are planned for full-day care, some of which include an extra cost to parents.
